It was a pleasure for us to work with such inspiring content, from the famous landscape at Battery Park and Highline in New York to the private gardens of Piet himself.
As Digital Creative Director and Lead Designer, I wanted to create something special where his work could be studied by many, resulting in this award-winning website.
The portfolio has proven the test of time, and has, apart from content updates, still the original design from 2014.
Creative Direction
Overview
We have designed the homepage as an interactive menu from which you can find every project. The hover-over state reveals the entire thumbnail. When inactive, the carefully cut lines of the typography mask the image. This interaction symbolizes how nature can take over and makes its own path
Online Sketch Directory
One of Piet's famous books available worldwide, Planting: A New Perspective, offers its readers a unique look into Piet's sketch process. To help readers study Piet's work, they can download copies of the original sketch drawings on the website.
Timeless
Piet's portfolio holds a special place in my heart as the first project that won us an Awwwards SOTD, but also because the website we built in 2014 remains unchanged to this day, nine years after we published the site.
Apart from a few necessary maintenance updates, the design is exactly the same. I hope the website will still be standing years from now, proving that timeless design and a no-nonsense approach will stand the test of time and remain relevant for another nine years.
